20 Somethings Family, Friends & You

The questions they want to ask you, but probably never will …

We posed the question: “What would you like to ask your parents, but probably never will?” Here’s the response so far:

XXXX

XXXX

  • At what point in my life will you really start considering me an adult and treating me seriously?
  • What was your relationship before you were married?
  • Did you ever cheat on one another (before you were married)?
  • How much money do you really make?
  • What’s the history of your drug use?
  • Which of us (between the siblings) is your favorite?
  • Did you want a boy or a girl?

Just something else to ponder …

Food, Fitness & Health News to Know

Increasing Fertility

A fascinating new study* on fertility (and on health generally) in Newsweek is guaranteed to surprise you. Here are highlights … To increase the chances of pregnancy:

Go for “slow” carbs and dump the “fast” ones

Decrease rapidly digested fast carbs (white bread, potatoes, sugared sodas) and instead eat slow ones (brown rice, pasta, dark bread).

Eliminate — totally — all trans-fats
What’s important is not the total amount of fat but the split between trans-fats (bad) and unsaturated fats (good). Only a small shift towards trans-fat – a doughnut, medium order of french fries, 2 tablespoons of stick margarine – has a dramatic negative effect.

Drink whole rather than skim milk
Have one to two servings of dairy products a day, but — and be sure to note — the more low-fat dairy products the more likely to have trouble getting pregnant.

Move towards beans, nuts & vegies
Go for less animal proteins (beef, pork, chicken, turkey) and more plant proteins (beans, nuts and vegetables).

Exercise by aiming for your “fertility zone”
If you’re lean do less exercise; if you’re heavy do more – don’t under-do or over-do. Go for 4 types: aerobics, strength training, stretching, daily living.

“Normal” is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a car that you are still paying for in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes and the car and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.

Last night my sister and I were sitting in the family room and I said to her,”I never want to live in a vegetative state, dependent on some machine and fluids from a bottle to keep me alive. That would be no quality of life at all. If that ever happens, just pull the plug.”

So she got up, unplugged the computer, and threw out my wine.

She’s such a bitch.
