Two items really caught my eye in The New York Times “OP-ED” section: The first tells us why women should consume more coffee and the second focuses on how “binge drinking, especially in youth, takes a toll even after you quit” …“Women, Consume More Coffee”*
“A French study found that older women who drank more than three cups of coffee a day were 33 percent less likely to lose any of their verbal memory than women who drank one cup a day or less. A Japanese study also found that women who consume three or more cups of coffee were about half as likely to develop colon cancer as those who drank none. No effect was seen in men.”

This editorial states:
” … The more we have binged – and the younger we have started to binge – the more we experience significant, though often subtle, effects on the brain and cognition.” … Long term, the study shows a “diminished capacity for relearning and maladaptive decision-making” . . . this can lead to “diminished control over cravings for alcohol and poor decision-making” …and an inability “to deal with ambiguity …
