I debated posting this because for so many of my media-related pals it would be too depressing. But, then, I figured, hey, you should know what’s out there circulating on the web …
Courtesy of Michele Ostove (founder of Wine Adventure magazine and now a Santa Fe pr whiz), here’s a link to the latest YouTube video, “Mad Avenue Blues.” It’s about the demise of the media and advertising industries after the big tech-takeover. The chorus is your first clue of what to expect:
“And they were singing
Bye bye those big upfront buys,
pitched my client who was pliant but the pitch didn’t fly,
and ol’ ad boys were drinking martinis dry,
saying ‘Tech has taken us for a ride…
Algorithms got me cross-eyed.’”
Sigh.
