Who likes loose-fitting clothes?
The other day I had breakfast with a friend who was going to a heavy-duty but casual-dress event that evening. She really wanted to look good, and she did. Her loose and linen outfit was perfect for the hot, humid summer day.
She’d bought her duds in France and, since the guys I know tend to react negatively when I wear similar fashion, I asked her: “Why is it that women just love clothes like you have on — free, relaxed, unfitted, breezy — and men don’t?” (Gosh, that sounds fairly undiplomatic in telling the story.)
Anyway, the obvious answer is that guys want a body to look at and women enjoy something stylish. Her response (maybe a little insulted) was: “That’s ridiculous. I’ve never thought that!” Which made me think of my husband who would under no condition say, “Wow, darling, you look great”… but doesn’t hesitate to say, “I don’t like that” — inevitably when I’m wearing something loose and unfitted.
So, I asked her: “What does your husband think?” She shrugged … the conversation changed … and we went our separate ways.
The next day she called me: “You know when I met up with my husband later, he looked me up and down and said, “Why are you wearing that. I hate it.”
Which just goes to show that … Sometimes women dress for men. Sometimes women dress for women. And sometimes women just dress for themselves.
